Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Metals, Auto and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.14%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which rose 7.55% or 23.10 points to trade at 326.05 at the close. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) added 1.09% or 14.00 points to end at 1299.40 and Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN) was up 1.45% or 11.95 points to 830.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which lost 17.88% or 32.70 points to trade at 150.70 in late trade. Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) declined 6.91% or 45.05 points to end at 613.90 and Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) shed 5.41% or 8.85 points to 154.15.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which rose 0.95% to 1295.55, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 0.85% to settle at 313.60 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which gained 0.46% to close at 1065.90.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 17.28% to 151.30 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which lost 13.72% to settle at 81.45 and Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 5.75% to 154.05 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1074 to 508 and 61 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1524 fell and 917 advanced, while 121 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.86% to 15.5675.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.06% or 0.75 to $1314.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.21% or 0.11 to hit $52.53 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.23% or 0.14 to trade at $61.77 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.14% to 71.215, while EUR/INR fell 0.15% to 80.7515.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 96.370.
