Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Metals, Real Estate and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.04%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI), which rose 1.25% or 42.55 points to trade at 3,435.55 at the close. HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) added 0.50% or 3.00 points to end at 598.60 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) was up 0.43% or 36.25 points to 8,419.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL), which lost 4.12% or 31.60 points to trade at 736.30 in late trade. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) declined 3.83% or 18.40 points to end at 461.50 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) shed 3.10% or 6.95 points to 217.15.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which rose 0.22% to 8,404.50, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 0.10% to settle at 3,314.05 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which lost 0.09% to close at 6,990.70.
The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 2.32% to 115.70 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 2.09% to settle at 211.10 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was down 1.83% to 389.75 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1361 to 553 and 53 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2164 fell and 1201 advanced, while 127 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 5.65% to 15.20.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.99% or 18.20 to $1,864.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 2.29% or 1.76 to hit $75.17 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 2.33% or 1.91 to trade at $80.19 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.01% to 82.76, while EUR/INR rose 0.62% to 87.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.53% at 103.76.
