Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Banking, Metals and Carbon sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.02%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN), which rose 2.31% or 61.60 points to trade at 2,732.00 at the close. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) added 1.70% or 149.40 points to end at 8,950.00 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) was up 1.65% or 123.75 points to 7,626.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK), which lost 5.83% or 100.80 points to trade at 1,627.00 in late trade. Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) declined 5.56% or 159.15 points to end at 2,702.90 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) shed 4.70% or 53.30 points to 1,081.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which rose 2.44% to 2,734.95, UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which was up 1.65% to settle at 7,627.50 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which gained 1.43% to close at 8,927.15.
The worst performers were HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was down 5.90% to 1,625.35 in late trade, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which lost 5.63% to settle at 2,701.15 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 5.29% to 1,074.05 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1222 to 689 and 60 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1950 fell and 1437 advanced, while 124 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.79% to 12.30.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.51% or 10.50 to $2,045.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.71% or 1.86 to hit $70.42 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.61% or 1.89 to trade at $74.39 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.01% to 81.71, while EUR/INR rose 0.13% to 90.09.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 101.08.
