Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.96% to hit a new 6-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.84%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL), which rose 4.30% or 9.05 points to trade at 217.90 at the close. Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) added 3.62% or 25.85 points to end at 734.65 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) was up 2.04% or 33.75 points to 1686.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which lost 4.83% or 57.95 points to trade at 1138.45 in late trade. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) declined 4.95% or 30.05 points to end at 575.85 and Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) shed 4.30% or 13.85 points to 309.10.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which rose 2.62% to 1480.00, Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was up 1.99% to settle at 94.75 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which gained 1.79% to close at 1689.90.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 5.07% to 576.30 in late trade, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which lost 4.86% to settle at 1143.00 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was down 3.93% to 309.30 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1161 to 428 and 57 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1726 fell and 763 advanced, while 132 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 10.86% to 19.0375.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.30% or 15.90 to $1237.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.24% or 0.86 to hit $68.31 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.77% or 1.41 to trade at $78.42 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.15% to 73.555, while EUR/INR rose 0.08% to 84.4105.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 95.67.
