Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Metals, Consumer Durables and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.95%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.83%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK), which rose 1.34% or 14.75 points to trade at 1,116.75 at the close. Axis Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) added 1.06% or 12.25 points to end at 1,172.00 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) was up 0.66% or 5.45 points to 828.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which lost 5.19% or 9.05 points to trade at 165.20 in late trade. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) declined 3.16% or 40.65 points to end at 1,245.80 and Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) shed 2.86% or 68.70 points to 2,331.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which rose 1.28% to 1,116.40, Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 1.00% to settle at 1,171.35 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which gained 0.74% to close at 1,518.95.
The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 5.22% to 165.10 in late trade, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which lost 3.15% to settle at 1,245.35 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 2.83% to 308.55 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1639 to 556 and 43 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2499 fell and 1164 advanced, while 103 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 24.17.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.42% or 10.00 to $2,354.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.37% or 0.29 to hit $78.94 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.41% or 0.34 to trade at $83.09 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.09% to 83.30, while EUR/INR fell 0.02% to 90.08.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 104.89.
