Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Auto, Green Energy and Consumer Durables sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.93%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.90%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which rose 1.60% or 1.70 points to trade at 108.20 at the close. Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) added 1.03% or 22.40 points to end at 2,193.20 and Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH) was up 0.82% or 36.05 points to 4,412.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which lost 4.24% or 86.50 points to trade at 1,953.15 in late trade. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) declined 3.24% or 41.80 points to end at 1,248.15 and SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) shed 2.81% or 31.70 points to 1,097.50.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 1.55% to 108.20, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was up 1.08% to settle at 2,193.35 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 0.97% to close at 773.85.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 3.31% to 1,247.55 in late trade, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which lost 2.37% to settle at 2,360.15 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 1.97% to 1,352.75 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1102 to 803 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1837 fell and 1530 advanced, while 124 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.21% to 12.73.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.16% or 2.85 to $1,821.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.04% or 0.03 to hit $76.69 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.08% or 0.07 to trade at $82.73 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.12% to 82.05, while EUR/INR rose 0.30% to 86.66.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.24% at 105.39.
