Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Metals, Auto and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.80%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.69%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL), which rose 2.45% or 44.35 points to trade at 1848.10 at the close. Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) added 1.60% or 31.05 points to end at 1973.30 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) was up 0.95% or 9.80 points to 1051.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which lost 5.80% or 25.70 points to trade at 412.95 in late trade. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) declined 5.19% or 12.10 points to end at 221.35 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) shed 4.03% or 21.70 points to 517.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which rose 2.07% to 1845.60, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was up 1.75% to settle at 1973.20 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which gained 0.51% to close at 2099.45.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 6.59% to 413.60 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 4.27% to settle at 515.30 and Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was down 3.85% to 92.50 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1171 to 413 and 53 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1713 fell and 763 advanced, while 136 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.56% to 18.3900.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.42% or 5.25 to $1241.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.06% or 0.03 to hit $53.22 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.14% or 0.09 to trade at $61.99 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.04% to 70.606, while EUR/INR rose 0.12% to 80.0810.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 96.942.
