Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Public Sector Undertakings, Real Estate and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.79%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.75%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which rose 1.18% or 4.90 points to trade at 421.60 at the close. HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) added 0.48% or 7.85 points to end at 1,639.65 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) was up 0.40% or 10.75 points to 2,674.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY), which lost 3.58% or 159.85 points to trade at 4,309.10 in late trade. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) declined 2.75% or 35.35 points to end at 1,251.60 and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) shed 2.66% or 23.50 points to 860.45.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which rose 0.49% to 1,638.70, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was up 0.30% to settle at 2,670.40 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which gained 0.19% to close at 19,767.50.
The worst performers were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 3.62% to 4,309.30 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 2.44% to settle at 1,255.40 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 2.30% to 3,057.45 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1275 to 624 and 54 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2017 fell and 1392 advanced, while 124 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.46% to 14.07.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.15% or 2.75 to $1,790.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 2.67% or 2.03 to hit $74.08 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 2.65% or 2.15 to trade at $79.06 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.02% to 82.83, while EUR/INR unchanged 0.00% to 88.03.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 104.20.
