Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Metals, Auto and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.78%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.82%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which rose 6.70% or 17.20 points to trade at 276.30 at the close. Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) added 2.25% or 8.40 points to end at 382.05 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) was up 1.12% or 4.90 points to 442.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which lost 7.88% or 24.50 points to trade at 293.05 in late trade. Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB) declined 2.21% or 1.55 points to end at 68.30 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) shed 2.55% or 53.15 points to 2035.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 1.28% to 442.30, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was up 0.70% to settle at 1274.25 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which gained 0.35% to close at 115.95.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was down 2.79% to 71.30 in late trade, Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which lost 2.50% to settle at 68.30 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 2.37% to 2036.10 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 806 to 757 and 66 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1262 fell and 1179 advanced, while 171 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.64% to 13.8975 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.14% or 2.05 to $1462.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $58.11 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.38% or 0.24 to trade at $63.03 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.34% to 71.745, while EUR/INR rose 0.31% to 78.9450.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 98.330.
