Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Technology, IT and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.74%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.84%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE), which rose 3.45% or 20.80 points to trade at 622.90 at the close. Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL) added 2.75% or 42.95 points to end at 1,607.25 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) was up 1.87% or 4.10 points to 222.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI), which lost 2.46% or 215.40 points to trade at 8,548.75 in late trade. AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) declined 2.28% or 19.70 points to end at 845.45 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) shed 1.90% or 64.25 points to 3,321.45.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which rose 0.99% to 4,390.00, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 0.66% to settle at 965.20 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which gained 0.62% to close at 220.20.
The worst performers were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 2.42% to 8,551.10 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 2.29% to settle at 845.40 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 1.91% to 3,321.15 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1089 to 825 and 60 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1798 fell and 1541 advanced, while 138 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.19% to 12.97.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.40% or 7.35 to $1,838.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.79% or 0.61 to hit $78.30 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.71% or 0.60 to trade at $84.91 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.19% to 82.59, while EUR/INR fell 0.24% to 87.71.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 104.79.
