Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Technology, IT and Metals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.74%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.75%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT), which rose 1.06% or 45.85 points to trade at 4,359.05 at the close. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) added 0.98% or 12.25 points to end at 1,264.90 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) was up 0.91% or 22.85 points to 2,536.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS), which lost 3.01% or 99.55 points to trade at 3,211.55 in late trade. JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) declined 2.98% or 22.35 points to end at 728.35 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) shed 2.79% or 33.95 points to 1,181.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 1.06% to 1,264.95, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was up 0.94% to settle at 2,537.25 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which gained 0.57% to close at 19,872.40.
The worst performers were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 2.97% to 3,212.00 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 2.81% to settle at 1,181.80 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 2.63% to 1,429.90 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1277 to 638 and 57 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1988 fell and 1385 advanced, while 125 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.28% to 15.02.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.06% or 1.05 to $1,841.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.75% or 0.55 to hit $74.22 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.65% or 0.51 to trade at $79.20 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.23% to 82.76, while EUR/INR rose 0.18% to 87.02.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.33% at 105.17.
