Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Auto, Technology and Carbon sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.71%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.73%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which rose 2.75% or 5.65 points to trade at 211.35 at the close. NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) added 2.10% or 2.45 points to end at 119.05 and GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) was up 1.85% or 2.20 points to 121.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which lost 3.57% or 10.80 points to trade at 292.20 in late trade. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) declined 2.75% or 21.50 points to end at 762.30 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) shed 2.21% or 71.95 points to 3185.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 2.01% to 119.05, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was up 0.82% to settle at 185.10 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 0.62% to close at 432.55.
The worst performers were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 2.51% to 762.60 in late trade, Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which lost 2.16% to settle at 3182.70 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 1.95% to 1514.10 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 839 to 714 and 78 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1309 rose and 1142 declined, while 178 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 6.00% to 11.6675.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.48% or 7.25 to $1525.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $61.70 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.15% or 0.10 to trade at $66.77 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.01% to 71.314, while EUR/INR rose 0.18% to 79.9860.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 96.225.
