Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.65% to hit a new 3-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.58%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which rose 1.18% or 3.80 points to trade at 326.40 at the close. Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN) added 1.01% or 23.60 points to end at 2,355.60 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) was up 0.85% or 6.50 points to 771.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which lost 7.27% or 136.20 points to trade at 1,738.20 in late trade. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) declined 3.92% or 26.70 points to end at 654.50 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) shed 2.74% or 32.65 points to 1,160.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which rose 0.93% to 2,356.55, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 0.80% to settle at 771.85 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 0.39% to close at 830.65.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 2.92% to 1,160.25 in late trade, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which lost 2.00% to settle at 3,216.85 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 1.91% to 5,732.45 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1371 to 553 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2256 fell and 1149 advanced, while 99 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was unchanged 0.02% to 16.22.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.55% or 10.45 to $1,906.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 2.70% or 2.02 to hit $72.78 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 2.29% or 1.85 to trade at $78.92 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.34% to 82.52, while EUR/INR rose 0.21% to 88.42.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.25% at 103.44.
