Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Auto, Green Energy and Carbon sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.61%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.66%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which rose 1.65% or 5.90 points to trade at 362.90 at the close. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) added 1.45% or 2.40 points to end at 168.00 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) was up 1.37% or 3.25 points to 240.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC), which lost 2.22% or 61.70 points to trade at 2,722.65 in late trade. Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) declined 1.83% or 9.70 points to end at 521.15 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) shed 1.80% or 23.20 points to 1,262.45.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which rose 0.98% to 6,776.00, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 0.85% to settle at 177.50 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which gained 0.74% to close at 586.20.
The worst performers were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was down 2.21% to 2,722.60 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 1.82% to settle at 1,262.50 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was down 1.76% to 1,646.75 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 967 to 945 and 76 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1790 rose and 1618 declined, while 127 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.91% to 13.29 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.51% or 10.40 to $2,012.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.07% or 0.05 to hit $71.16 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $75.25 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.13% to 82.22, while EUR/INR rose 0.11% to 89.56.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 102.13.
