Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Auto, Oil & Gas and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.60%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.66%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL), which rose 9.78% or 104.50 points to trade at 1,173.00 at the close. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) added 2.30% or 25.60 points to end at 1,137.60 and Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI) was up 2.03% or 74.55 points to 3,755.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which lost 6.20% or 95.85 points to trade at 1,449.00 in late trade. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) declined 3.64% or 41.65 points to end at 1,101.55 and Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN) shed 2.71% or 23.70 points to 850.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 2.10% to 1,135.10, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 0.69% to settle at 894.50 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which gained 0.62% to close at 2,663.00.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 6.39% to 1,446.85 in late trade, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which lost 3.82% to settle at 1,100.30 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 2.08% to 22,330.60 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 976 to 976 and 68 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1726 fell and 1717 advanced, while 131 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.53% to 10.51.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.31% or 6.15 to $1,976.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.88% or 0.69 to hit $79.47 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.63% or 0.52 to trade at $83.08 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.13% to 81.95, while EUR/INR rose 0.51% to 91.31.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 100.38.
