Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Auto, Oil & Gas and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.56%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.58%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which rose 3.75% or 4.85 points to trade at 134.65 at the close. Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) added 1.76% or 24.10 points to end at 1394.70 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) was up 1.03% or 15.05 points to 1471.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which lost 3.00% or 9.75 points to trade at 316.10 in late trade. Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) declined 2.72% or 4.90 points to end at 175.40 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) shed 3.12% or 12.15 points to 378.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 3.67% to 134.05, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was up 1.54% to settle at 1394.00 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which gained 1.08% to close at 1470.70.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was down 2.80% to 86.75 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which lost 2.47% to settle at 175.40 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 2.44% to 1342.10 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1054 to 545 and 64 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1626 fell and 963 advanced, while 142 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.51% to 16.2750.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.40% or 5.25 to $1312.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.95% or 0.57 to hit $59.41 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.12% or 0.76 to trade at $67.10 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.41% to 68.957, while EUR/INR fell 0.24% to 78.0535.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 96.090.
