Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Public Sector Undertakings, Oil & Gas and Auto sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.55%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.61%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC), which rose 2.65% or 96.50 points to trade at 3752.00 at the close. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) added 2.34% or 54.55 points to end at 2390.60 and Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) was up 2.08% or 5.95 points to 291.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which lost 6.04% or 18.60 points to trade at 289.40 in late trade. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL) declined 3.92% or 12.20 points to end at 298.95 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) shed 3.64% or 10.95 points to 289.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which rose 2.07% to 1272.30, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was up 0.70% to settle at 1329.45 and Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which gained 0.70% to close at 230.25.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was down 7.08% to 168.75 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which lost 5.94% to settle at 289.85 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 3.79% to 289.45 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1183 to 419 and 42 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1696 fell and 833 advanced, while 128 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.66% to 12.5825.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.20% or 2.50 to $1268.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.16% or 0.11 to hit $68.47 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.71% or 1.29 to trade at $74.03 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.43% to 68.155, while EUR/INR rose 0.26% to 79.3314.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 94.33.
