Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Metals, Auto and Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.53%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.50%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT), which rose 2.72% or 29.70 points to trade at 1123.95 at the close. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) added 2.48% or 8.50 points to end at 350.55 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was up 2.40% or 18.85 points to 802.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which lost 7.13% or 4.60 points to trade at 59.50 in late trade. Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) declined 3.77% or 5.20 points to end at 132.35 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) shed 4.29% or 15.05 points to 336.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which rose 2.61% to 1121.80, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was up 2.18% to settle at 802.10 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which gained 2.10% to close at 690.55.
The worst performers were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 7.47% to 59.50 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which lost 4.20% to settle at 53.60 and Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 4.06% to 132.20 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 999 to 568 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1526 fell and 912 advanced, while 136 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 5.15% to 16.8350.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.00% or 0.05 to $1551.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.51% or 0.83 to hit $55.76 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.17% or 0.69 to trade at $59.72 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.41% to 71.817, while EUR/INR rose 0.44% to 79.6670.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 98.012.
