Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Banking, Public Sector Undertakings and Carbon sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.50%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.57%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN), which rose 2.66% or 70.95 points to trade at 2,737.60 at the close. Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) added 2.64% or 69.15 points to end at 2,692.75 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) was up 2.38% or 79.95 points to 3,436.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD), which lost 3.06% or 6.95 points to trade at 220.10 in late trade. AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) declined 2.15% or 17.35 points to end at 789.20 and HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) shed 2.13% or 32.35 points to 1,486.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which rose 2.73% to 2,737.90, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was up 2.64% to settle at 2,693.05 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which gained 2.51% to close at 3,439.00.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 2.80% to 220.05 in late trade, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which lost 2.18% to settle at 1,485.70 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 2.09% to 789.10 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 968 to 870 and 47 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1745 rose and 1555 declined, while 143 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.64% to 18.82.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.03% or 0.50 to $1,675.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.51% or 0.42 to hit $83.36 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.45% or 0.40 to trade at $90.23 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 1.04% to 80.88, while EUR/INR rose 1.68% to 79.91.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 110.66.
