Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Real Estate, Auto and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.49%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.47%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which rose 2.65% or 4.70 points to trade at 182.05 at the close. JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) added 2.61% or 19.05 points to end at 748.80 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was up 1.59% or 2.45 points to 156.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS), which lost 3.06% or 54.20 points to trade at 1,714.85 in late trade. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) declined 2.73% or 52.90 points to end at 1,886.50 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) shed 2.72% or 27.60 points to 987.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 2.62% to 182.05, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was up 1.09% to settle at 2,340.60 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which gained 0.98% to close at 241.60.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 2.68% to 987.10 in late trade, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which lost 2.68% to settle at 1,886.35 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 1.99% to 1,073.85 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1283 to 683 and 47 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1974 fell and 1460 advanced, while 106 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.62% to 11.26.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.19% or 3.75 to $1,962.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.72% or 0.52 to hit $73.05 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.61% or 0.47 to trade at $77.42 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.09% to 82.57, while EUR/INR rose 0.32% to 88.56.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 103.83.
