Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Metals, Oil & Gas and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.45%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.46%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which rose 4.12% or 19.40 points to trade at 489.90 at the close. AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) added 3.36% or 17.70 points to end at 544.85 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) was up 2.69% or 30.75 points to 1172.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which lost 4.11% or 13.80 points to trade at 321.90 in late trade. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) declined 3.70% or 19.05 points to end at 495.30 and Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) shed 3.02% or 13.65 points to 438.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 3.41% to 545.05, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was up 2.51% to settle at 1170.95 and Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which gained 2.07% to close at 620.95.
The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 3.73% to 495.15 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which lost 2.92% to settle at 438.70 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 2.35% to 309.75 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1087 to 499 and 6 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1714 fell and 994 advanced, while 115 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.81% to 13.6100 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.46% or 5.89 to $1281.69 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.19% or 0.11 to hit $57.09 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.06% or 0.04 to trade at $63.73 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.28% to 64.985, while EUR/INR fell 0.04% to 75.3502.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 94.74.
