Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Public Sector Undertakings and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.38%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Auto Limited (NS:BAJA), which rose 2.22% or 59.75 points to trade at 2755.35 at the close. Bharti Infratel Limited (NS:BHRI) added 1.23% or 4.350 points to end at 357.650 and Tata Motors DV Ltd (NS:TAMdv) was up 1.08% or 3.35 points to 314.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA), which lost 6.53% or 7.25 points to trade at 103.85 in late trade. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) declined 5.06% or 11.65 points to end at 218.60 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) shed 4.29% or 16.25 points to 362.65.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which rose 2.51% to 2755.80, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 0.94% to settle at 570.05 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 0.88% to close at 1081.70.
The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 4.97% to 219.00 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 3.98% to settle at 363.45 and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which was down 2.14% to 139.75 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 958 to 523 and 49 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1021 fell and 609 advanced, while 51 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.24% to 15.9875.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.09% or 1.15 to $1326.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.56% or 0.26 to hit $46.39 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.46% or 0.22 to trade at $47.39 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.03% to 67.160, while EUR/INR rose 0.15% to 74.1840.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.03% at 96.67.
