Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Power, Auto and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.38%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST), which rose 4.16% or 730.85 points to trade at 18300.00 at the close. ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) added 3.77% or 7.75 points to end at 213.15 and Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) was up 3.14% or 113.90 points to 3741.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL), which lost 11.29% or 55.60 points to trade at 437.00 in late trade. UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) declined 3.32% or 170.80 points to end at 4974.00 and Shree Cements Ltd. (NS:SHCM) shed 2.79% or 680.50 points to 23740.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which rose 4.17% to 18294.10, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 3.77% to settle at 213.10 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which gained 2.49% to close at 2348.70.
The worst performers were UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which was down 3.27% to 4979.45 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 2.50% to settle at 736.00 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was down 1.34% to 1387.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1029 to 630 and 57 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1596 fell and 1207 advanced, while 148 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.10% to 18.7125.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.04% or 0.75 to $1837.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.94% or 0.43 to hit $45.95 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.02% or 0.50 to trade at $49.36 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.08% to 73.664, while EUR/INR rose 0.09% to 89.1370.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 91.040.
