Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Power, Auto and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.33%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which rose 5.87% or 14.90 points to trade at 268.45 at the close. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) added 5.68% or 97.35 points to end at 1804.25 and Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) was up 2.78% or 20.30 points to 750.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL), which lost 2.82% or 7.80 points to trade at 269.20 in late trade. NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) declined 2.70% or 3.80 points to end at 137.00 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) shed 1.67% or 358.00 points to 20974.15.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which rose 5.62% to 267.95, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was up 5.27% to settle at 1805.85 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which gained 1.57% to close at 308.05.
The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 2.25% to 136.95 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which lost 1.85% to settle at 169.90 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 1.49% to 323.30 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 885 to 740 and 59 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1494 fell and 1144 advanced, while 141 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.41% to 17.0475.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.16% or 2.15 to $1323.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.70% or 0.42 to hit $59.52 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.27% or 0.18 to trade at $67.25 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.29% to 68.820, while EUR/INR fell 0.09% to 77.6380.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 96.238.
