Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Technology, IT and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.32%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL), which rose 1.40% or 34.30 points to trade at 2,486.00 at the close. Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) added 1.04% or 30.15 points to end at 2,929.70 and Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) was up 0.72% or 3.45 points to 483.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which lost 4.21% or 80.85 points to trade at 1,839.00 in late trade. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) declined 1.89% or 3.10 points to end at 161.15 and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) shed 1.74% or 11.85 points to 669.65.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which rose 1.42% to 2,486.25, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was up 1.02% to settle at 2,928.70 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which gained 0.70% to close at 7,508.00.
The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 1.54% to 778.00 in late trade, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which lost 1.46% to settle at 1,038.30 and Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 1.22% to 859.90 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 973 to 948 and 51 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1689 rose and 1688 declined, while 146 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.48% to 11.84.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.11% or 2.25 to $2,025.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 2.93% or 2.10 to hit $69.56 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 2.75% or 2.07 to trade at $73.25 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.01% to 81.81, while EUR/INR rose 0.39% to 90.27.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.37% at 101.35.
