Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Power, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Consumer Durables sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.32%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which rose 3.27% or 7.10 points to trade at 223.95 at the close. UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) added 2.14% or 15.65 points to end at 748.00 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was up 1.41% or 2.10 points to 151.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which lost 3.88% or 139.60 points to trade at 3,457.10 in late trade. Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) declined 3.12% or 91.85 points to end at 2,853.40 and Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) shed 1.90% or 7.75 points to 400.65.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 0.73% to 123.50, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 0.64% to settle at 220.75 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which gained 0.49% to close at 1,053.40.
The worst performers were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 2.64% to 2,868.05 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 1.89% to settle at 1,199.45 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was down 1.73% to 1,767.90 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1122 to 786 and 60 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1859 fell and 1537 advanced, while 109 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.87% to 13.96.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.13% or 2.45 to $1,909.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.14% or 0.91 to hit $78.89 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.93% or 0.79 to trade at $84.19 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.07% to 81.38, while EUR/INR rose 0.21% to 88.07.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 101.97.
