Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Power, Consumer Durables and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.26%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI), which rose 3.08% or 97.35 points to trade at 3,260.00 at the close. HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) added 2.27% or 23.65 points to end at 1,065.85 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was up 2.06% or 18.65 points to 925.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD), which lost 2.43% or 5.75 points to trade at 230.90 in late trade. UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) declined 1.90% or 147.45 points to end at 7,595.00 and Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL) shed 1.89% or 35.55 points to 1,843.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which rose 1.99% to 1,063.50, Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was up 1.99% to settle at 20,653.70 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which gained 1.90% to close at 1,145.45.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 2.62% to 230.25 in late trade, UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which lost 1.85% to settle at 7,593.45 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 1.13% to 2,340.05 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1012 to 905 and 54 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1835 rose and 1569 declined, while 117 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.55% to 12.07.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.48% or 9.65 to $2,016.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.04% or 0.03 to hit $80.80 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.04% or 0.03 to trade at $84.73 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.04% to 82.04, while EUR/INR rose 0.52% to 90.03.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.39% at 101.39.
