Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Power, IT and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.24% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.33%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which rose 3.35% or 4.10 points to trade at 126.65 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) added 3.26% or 11.75 points to end at 372.50 and Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH) was up 2.79% or 119.10 points to 4,388.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which lost 5.20% or 185.85 points to trade at 3,384.80 in late trade. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) declined 2.19% or 22.60 points to end at 1,007.10 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) shed 2.12% or 55.05 points to 2,536.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 2.51% to 333.05, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was up 2.16% to settle at 4,359.20 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which gained 1.68% to close at 96.85.
The worst performers were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 5.22% to 3,384.80 in late trade, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which lost 1.86% to settle at 1,010.50 and Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which was down 1.69% to 2,531.85 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1034 to 779 and 53 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1821 rose and 1462 declined, while 128 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.59% to 21.30.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.79% or 13.25 to $1,656.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.28% or 0.23 to hit $82.38 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.26% or 0.23 to trade at $88.28 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.47% to 81.79, while EUR/INR unchanged 0.01% to 79.24.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.63% at 113.22.
