Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Auto, Banking and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.24%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which rose 4.63% or 8.30 points to trade at 187.40 at the close. Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) added 4.46% or 15.30 points to end at 358.00 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was up 3.51% or 12.00 points to 353.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which lost 4.00% or 18.05 points to trade at 432.75 in late trade. Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) declined 3.08% or 89.10 points to end at 2804.90 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) shed 2.52% or 179.70 points to 6938.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 2.27% to 410.35, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 2.14% to settle at 88.30 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 2.03% to close at 466.00.
The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 3.82% to 433.60 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 2.45% to settle at 6940.00 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 2.44% to 3297.05 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 830 to 760 and 92 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1299 rose and 1191 declined, while 170 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.04% to 24.7525 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.36% or 6.75 to $1874.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.53% or 0.19 to hit $35.98 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.60% or 0.23 to trade at $38.03 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.23% to 74.543, while EUR/INR rose 0.18% to 86.9730.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 93.920.
