Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Banking and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.21%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL), which rose 1.91% or 24.70 points to trade at 1,316.00 at the close. UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) added 1.80% or 126.10 points to end at 7,148.05 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) was up 1.79% or 18.90 points to 1,073.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI), which lost 3.00% or 102.50 points to trade at 3,308.95 in late trade. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) declined 1.99% or 7.00 points to end at 345.50 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) shed 1.99% or 50.15 points to 2,476.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which rose 1.81% to 7,150.60, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was up 1.66% to settle at 2,160.20 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which gained 1.62% to close at 1,071.90.
The worst performers were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 2.11% to 2,472.10 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 1.54% to settle at 935.35 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was down 1.26% to 1,779.60 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1106 to 793 and 69 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1803 fell and 1575 advanced, while 149 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.04% to 15.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.42% or 7.90 to $1,886.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.16% or 0.90 to hit $78.31 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.20% or 0.99 to trade at $83.66 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.05% to 81.59, while EUR/INR unchanged 0.00% to 87.80.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 102.83.
