Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Power and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.14%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which rose 3.76% or 19.75 points to trade at 541.45 at the close. Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (NS:ARBN) added 3.08% or 17.60 points to end at 586.85 and Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) was up 2.38% or 9.40 points to 404.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which lost 4.35% or 19.45 points to trade at 427.45 in late trade. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) declined 2.10% or 4.00 points to end at 186.10 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) shed 1.93% or 41.80 points to 2123.45.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 3.32% to 542.15, Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE) which was up 2.16% to settle at 404.10 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which gained 2.01% to close at 1075.90.
The worst performers were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 2.19% to 2121.30 in late trade, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which lost 2.05% to settle at 186.20 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 1.88% to 190.95 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1058 to 528 and 42 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1661 fell and 988 advanced, while 151 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 6.83% to 14.8325.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.47% or 6.20 to $1325.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.66% or 0.41 to hit $61.27 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.46% or 0.30 to trade at $65.12 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.15% to 65.005, while EUR/INR rose 0.37% to 79.9051.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 89.95.
