Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Metals, Green Energy and Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.13%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM), which rose 3.82% or 112.85 points to trade at 3,066.90 at the close. SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) added 3.59% or 46.80 points to end at 1,349.35 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was up 3.50% or 42.80 points to 1,266.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which lost 2.98% or 75.95 points to trade at 2,474.55 in late trade. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) declined 2.60% or 6.45 points to end at 241.50 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) shed 2.17% or 10.10 points to 454.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which rose 1.82% to 1,205.30, Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was up 1.34% to settle at 416.55 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which gained 0.98% to close at 7,186.35.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 2.62% to 241.50 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 1.78% to settle at 1,499.55 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was down 0.88% to 1,140.90 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1028 to 955 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1789 rose and 1695 declined, while 140 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.00% to 11.32.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.19% or 3.75 to $1,966.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.53% or 1.25 to hit $80.69 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.59% or 1.36 to trade at $83.98 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.01% to 82.84, while EUR/INR fell 0.30% to 90.78.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.51% at 102.38.
