Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Healthcare and Auto sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.10%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 2.82% or 13.45 points to trade at 491.00 at the close. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) added 1.69% or 17.15 points to end at 1,029.00 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) was up 1.61% or 111.70 points to 7,032.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which lost 3.46% or 27.45 points to trade at 765.40 in late trade. Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) declined 2.79% or 30.10 points to end at 1,048.60 and Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI) shed 2.56% or 89.50 points to 3,412.35.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 1.65% to 1,028.25, UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which was up 1.58% to settle at 7,034.10 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which gained 1.37% to close at 1,590.80.
The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 3.46% to 765.40 in late trade, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 1.89% to settle at 2,593.85 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 1.27% to 2,525.50 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 974 to 918 and 69 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1818 rose and 1548 declined, while 146 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.48% to 15.44.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.57% or 10.75 to $1,887.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.20% or 0.15 to hit $75.27 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.40% or 0.32 to trade at $80.42 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.11% to 81.69, while EUR/INR rose 0.22% to 87.78.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 103.06.
