Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Capital Goods, Auto and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.09%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which rose 4.62% or 18.15 points to trade at 409.20 at the close. Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) added 4.41% or 17.40 points to end at 410.05 and UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) was up 3.71% or 19.70 points to 549.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which lost 4.29% or 2.95 points to trade at 65.85 in late trade. Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) declined 1.96% or 63.10 points to end at 3156.90 and Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) shed 1.67% or 53.45 points to 3140.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 4.06% to 409.15, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 4.01% to settle at 410.20 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 2.28% to close at 424.35.
The worst performers were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 4.08% to 65.90 in late trade, Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which lost 1.69% to settle at 3157.40 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 1.61% to 573.15 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 859 to 718 and 69 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1335 fell and 1100 advanced, while 201 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.82% to 15.7550.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.67% or 9.80 to $1458.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.05% or 0.03 to hit $57.80 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.05% or 0.03 to trade at $63.33 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.25% to 71.823, while EUR/INR rose 0.34% to 79.4360.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 97.805.
