Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Auto, Metals and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.09%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which rose 3.60% or 9.40 points to trade at 270.65 at the close. Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN) added 2.38% or 19.60 points to end at 844.20 and Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) was up 2.25% or 6.45 points to 293.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which lost 2.53% or 5.40 points to trade at 208.00 in late trade. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) declined 2.03% or 193.55 points to end at 9341.60 and Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) shed 1.91% or 4.25 points to 218.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which rose 3.29% to 270.30, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 1.74% to settle at 1975.10 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 1.61% to close at 575.80.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 1.84% to 218.15 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 1.75% to settle at 9340.30 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 1.68% to 384.15 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 831 to 743 and 76 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1343 rose and 1259 declined, while 135 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.40% to 12.5300.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.12% or 1.50 to $1222.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.02% or 0.70 to hit $68.06 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.12% or 0.83 to trade at $73.38 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.05% to 68.456, while EUR/INR fell 0.05% to 79.9940.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 94.40.
