Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Auto, Banking and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.04%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT), which rose 2.09% or 18.15 points to trade at 890.25 at the close. Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) added 2.11% or 25.95 points to end at 1258.80 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was up 2.01% or 5.20 points to 263.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which lost 3.64% or 28.02 points to trade at 742.20 in late trade. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) declined 0.84% or 14.90 points to end at 1748.05 and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL) shed 1.08% or 4.65 points to 426.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which rose 1.92% to 1253.80, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 1.84% to settle at 715.50 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which gained 1.45% to close at 3795.00.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 3.74% to 742.10 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 1.11% to settle at 9629.15 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 1.09% to 1346.50 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1007 to 569 and 37 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1671 rose and 983 declined, while 176 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.82% to 12.0850 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.05% or 0.60 to $1269.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.19% or 0.11 to hit $57.98 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.28% or 0.18 to trade at $64.38 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.16% to 64.080, while EUR/INR rose 0.01% to 76.1207.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 92.92.
