Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Metals, Auto and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 1.74% to hit a new 6-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.84%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (NS:APSE), which rose 5.02% or 10.40 points to trade at 217.45 at the close. Bank Of Baroda (NS:BOB) added 4.91% or 7.60 points to end at 162.35 and Tata Motors Ltd . (NS:TAMO) was up 3.92% or 18.30 points to 484.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT), which lost 0.70% or 5.05 points to trade at 716.80 in late trade. AXIS Bank Ltd. (NS:AXBK) declined 0.38% or 2.05 points to end at 544.40 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) shed 0.20% or 2.25 points to 1124.45.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which rose 4.15% to 484.50, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was up 3.88% to settle at 148.60 and ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO:ICBK) which gained 3.44% to close at 249.85.
The worst performers were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 0.38% to 544.35 in late trade, Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which gained 0.31% to settle at 521.35 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was up 0.65% to 225.05 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 987 to 493 and 53 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1041 rose and 564 declined, while 69 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.56% to 14.8475 a new 6-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.15% or 2.10 to $1360.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.39% or 0.63 to hit $44.78 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.30% or 0.61 to trade at $46.15 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.05% to 67.170, while EUR/INR rose 0.00% to 74.1910.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.34% at 96.64.
