Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Auto and Green Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.97% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which rose 7.97% or 27.50 points to trade at 372.75 at the close. Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) added 4.65% or 44.30 points to end at 996.35 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) was up 4.15% or 20.55 points to 516.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Power Co. Ltd (NS:TTPW), which lost 1.87% or 1.55 points to trade at 81.55 in late trade. Wipro Ltd . (NS:WIPR) declined 1.82% or 9.25 points to end at 499.65 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) shed 1.47% or 65.35 points to 4367.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 7.87% to 372.70, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was up 4.60% to settle at 995.90 and Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which gained 3.25% to close at 1572.80.
The worst performers were Wipro Ltd. (BO:WIPR) which was down 1.64% to 500.35 in late trade, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which lost 1.14% to settle at 1151.90 and ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO:ICBK) which was down 0.91% to 298.55 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 957 to 608 and 9 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1578 rose and 1187 declined, while 162 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.48% to 10.9475.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.74% or 8.97 to $1225.07 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.11% or 0.51 to hit $46.39 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.99% or 0.48 to trade at $49.21 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.11% to 64.605, while EUR/INR fell 0.16% to 70.2261.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 99.45.
