Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Banking, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Auto sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.38% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were ICICI Bank Ltd . (NS:ICBK), which rose 3.65% or 7.80 points to trade at 221.65 at the close. Tata Motors Ltd . (NS:TAMO) added 3.44% or 12.20 points to end at 366.45 and Cairn India Limited (NS:CAIL) was up 3.27% or 4.80 points to 151.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Coal India Limited (NS:COAL), which lost 6.96% or 22.20 points to trade at 296.70 in late trade. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) declined 0.91% or 5.85 points to end at 636.80 and Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA) shed 0.88% or 0.90 points to 101.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO:ICBK) which rose 3.70% to 221.70, Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was up 3.36% to settle at 365.90 and Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which gained 1.89% to close at 89.00.
The worst performers were Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which was down 6.96% to 296.85 in late trade, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which lost 0.88% to settle at 2345.15 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 0.73% to 1211.00 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 746 to 665 and 72 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 426 rose and 399 declined, while 28 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.03% to 17.1025.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.19% or 2.40 to $1257.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 2.08% or 0.80 to hit $37.70 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.73% or 0.70 to trade at $39.69 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.19% to 67.070, while EUR/INR fell 0.13% to 74.5150.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.30% at 96.52.
