Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Consumer Durables, Oil & Gas and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.16%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (NS:PGRD), which rose 2.53% or 4.65 points to trade at 188.30 at the close. Coal India Limited (NS:COAL) added 2.32% or 6.95 points to end at 307.00 and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (NS:BHEL) was up 2.04% or 2.50 points to 125.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which lost 3.23% or 10.05 points to trade at 300.95 in late trade. Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA) declined 2.40% or 1.80 points to end at 73.15 and Hero MotoCorp Limited (NS:HROM) shed 1.34% or 40.65 points to 2989.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (BO:PGRD) which rose 2.48% to 188.00, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 1.90% to settle at 455.20 and Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which gained 1.53% to close at 305.30.
The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 2.36% to 303.65 in late trade, Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which lost 1.44% to settle at 2985.05 and Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was down 1.23% to 481.25 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1052 to 439 and 57 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1803 rose and 888 declined, while 127 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.81% to 15.9575.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.25% or 2.85 to $1148.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.29% or 1.23 to hit $54.95 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 2.24% or 1.27 to trade at $58.09 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.53% to 68.316, while EUR/INR fell 0.29% to 71.0720.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.86% at 103.25.
