Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Capital Goods and Consumer Durables sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 2.11%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 2.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Shree Cements Ltd. (NS:SHCM), which rose 6.24% or 1144.20 points to trade at 19484.95 at the close. Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) added 6.15% or 94.65 points to end at 1634.50 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) was up 5.82% or 215.45 points to 3915.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which lost 6.99% or 15.30 points to trade at 203.45 in late trade. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) declined 2.60% or 9.55 points to end at 358.25 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) shed 2.34% or 48.50 points to 2025.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which rose 5.74% to 1628.75, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was up 5.48% to settle at 404.45 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which gained 4.85% to close at 835.05.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 2.85% to 357.35 in late trade, Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which lost 2.33% to settle at 2025.95 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 0.85% to 594.05 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 911 to 560 and 111 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1231 rose and 970 declined, while 160 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 9.23% to 35.8100.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.53% or 9.25 to $1754.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.69% or 0.22 to hit $32.18 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.41% or 0.49 to trade at $35.14 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.01% to 75.633, while EUR/INR rose 0.20% to 82.7730.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 99.425.
