Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Public Sector Undertakings and Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 1.80%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.76%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which rose 8.80% or 20.60 points to trade at 254.65 at the close. Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) added 6.87% or 185.85 points to end at 2,892.00 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) was up 6.29% or 24.50 points to 413.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL), which lost 2.05% or 28.10 points to trade at 1,341.55 in late trade. ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) declined 1.57% or 7.15 points to end at 448.50 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) shed 0.89% or 14.85 points to 1,654.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which rose 6.86% to 2,896.15, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 3.40% to settle at 253.80 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which gained 3.22% to close at 3,707.40.
The worst performers were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 1.20% to 450.00 in late trade, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which lost 0.89% to settle at 1,655.90 and LTIMindtree Ltd (BO:LTIM) which was down 0.73% to 5,452.00 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1262 to 914 and 29 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2155 rose and 1629 declined, while 139 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 13.09% to 15.68 a new 6-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.49% or 10.05 to $2,046.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.05% or 0.04 to hit $77.97 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.07% or 0.06 to trade at $82.89 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.05% to 83.16, while EUR/INR fell 0.30% to 89.94.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 103.46.
