Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Metals, Capital Goods and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 1.62% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.72%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which rose 6.46% or 9.10 points to trade at 149.95 at the close. Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) added 4.48% or 155.95 points to end at 3,633.50 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) was up 4.31% or 34.45 points to 834.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY), which lost 3.59% or 230.70 points to trade at 6,193.55 in late trade. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) declined 1.19% or 18.70 points to end at 1,559.25 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) shed 1.19% or 19.75 points to 1,644.10.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 6.46% to 150.00, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was up 4.39% to settle at 3,634.50 and Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which gained 3.63% to close at 3,760.95.
The worst performers were Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 3.47% to 6,197.40 in late trade, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which lost 1.36% to settle at 1,644.45 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 1.19% to 1,655.05 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1372 to 791 and 37 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2269 rose and 1428 declined, while 103 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.17% to 15.23.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.20% or 4.20 to $2,058.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.16% or 0.91 to hit $79.17 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.18% or 0.97 to trade at $82.88 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.02% to 82.89, while EUR/INR fell 0.06% to 89.53.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 104.15.
