Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Banking, Power and Metals sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.61% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.68%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which rose 5.13% or 23.10 points to trade at 473.00 at the close. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) added 4.93% or 36.40 points to end at 775.05 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) was up 4.86% or 21.50 points to 464.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL), which lost 2.91% or 22.95 points to trade at 767.00 in late trade. Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) declined 1.12% or 4.15 points to end at 366.95 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) shed 0.67% or 1.30 points to 191.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 4.92% to 471.90, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was up 4.83% to settle at 774.40 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 4.42% to close at 462.70.
The worst performers were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 0.63% to 6862.00 in late trade, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which lost 0.55% to settle at 173.00 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 0.07% to 6276.20 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 942 to 664 and 95 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1443 rose and 1159 declined, while 184 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.88% to 20.1125 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.40% or 7.85 to $1959.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 2.48% or 0.92 to hit $38.06 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 2.33% or 0.92 to trade at $40.37 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.17% to 74.101, while EUR/INR rose 0.14% to 87.9835.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 92.323.
