Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the IT, Technology and Metals sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.10% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 1.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which rose 3.75% or 37.80 points to trade at 1,045.50 at the close. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) added 3.64% or 4.65 points to end at 132.55 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) was up 3.11% or 27.70 points to 917.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL), which lost 2.00% or 10.70 points to trade at 525.20 in late trade. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) declined 1.74% or 20.60 points to end at 1,165.65 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) shed 1.07% or 32.95 points to 3,044.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which rose 3.84% to 1,046.30, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was up 3.08% to settle at 917.50 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which gained 2.89% to close at 3,163.95.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 1.81% to 1,164.70 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 0.87% to settle at 867.25 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was down 0.48% to 1,824.90 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1025 to 805 and 57 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1825 rose and 1401 declined, while 130 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.21% to 16.82 a new 6-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.13% or 2.25 to $1,708.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.50% or 1.51 to hit $99.23 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.34% or 1.44 to trade at $105.91 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.19% to 80.01, while EUR/INR fell 0.14% to 81.52.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.29% at 106.86.
