Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Auto and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 1.04% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Axis Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which rose 3.82% or 39.00 points to trade at 1,060.15 at the close. Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) added 3.45% or 124.90 points to end at 3,746.90 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) was up 3.39% or 53.05 points to 1,619.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which lost 1.11% or 26.90 points to trade at 2,396.60 in late trade. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) declined 1.01% or 1.95 points to end at 192.00 and Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI) shed 0.81% or 30.30 points to 3,729.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 3.92% to 1,060.40, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was up 3.38% to settle at 1,618.90 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which gained 2.32% to close at 406.15.
The worst performers were Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 0.57% to 24,071.95 in late trade, Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which lost 0.49% to settle at 3,425.05 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 0.34% to 1,649.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1074 to 1001 and 59 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1798 rose and 1768 declined, while 135 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.37% to 12.71 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.08% or 1.70 to $2,038.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.16% or 0.89 to hit $77.30 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.01% or 0.82 to trade at $82.29 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.05% to 83.32, while EUR/INR fell 0.23% to 91.41.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 102.81.
