Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Metals, Consumer Durables and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.94%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.89%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT), which rose 3.89% or 45.10 points to trade at 1205.00 at the close. Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) added 3.73% or 24.85 points to end at 690.80 and UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) was up 3.58% or 25.35 points to 733.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD), which lost 1.55% or 3.25 points to trade at 206.60 in late trade. AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) declined 1.26% or 8.50 points to end at 665.85 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) shed 0.85% or 56.60 points to 6577.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which rose 3.91% to 1205.25, Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was up 3.66% to settle at 690.75 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which gained 2.98% to close at 1104.90.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 1.50% to 206.65 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 1.31% to settle at 665.95 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 0.82% to 6579.45 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1296 to 490 and 28 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2205 rose and 1014 declined, while 109 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 7.53% to 17.5375.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.13% or 2.40 to $1797.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.21% or 0.83 to hit $69.44 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.89% or 0.64 to trade at $72.16 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.19% to 75.577, while EUR/INR fell 0.01% to 85.3645.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 96.370.
