Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Real Estate, Metals and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.87% to hit a new 3-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.85%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which rose 4.76% or 16.55 points to trade at 363.95 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) added 3.15% or 7.00 points to end at 229.05 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) was up 2.87% or 28.60 points to 1025.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL), which lost 1.92% or 5.25 points to trade at 268.30 in late trade. Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) declined 1.30% or 2.05 points to end at 155.25 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) shed 1.18% or 23.20 points to 1935.10.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which rose 3.02% to 1025.75, Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was up 2.58% to settle at 371.25 and Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which gained 2.56% to close at 278.00.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 1.00% to 1935.00 in late trade, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which lost 0.96% to settle at 1372.45 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 0.96% to 564.00 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1131 to 469 and 54 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1620 rose and 937 declined, while 132 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.04% to 12.3950.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.50% or 6.30 to $1253.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.57% or 0.42 to hit $74.27 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.22% or 0.95 to trade at $79.02 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.19% to 68.785, while EUR/INR fell 0.10% to 80.6015.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.30% at 94.08.
