Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Real Estate, Banking and Capital Goods sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.83% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.84%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which rose 5.43% or 25.15 points to trade at 488.00 at the close. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) added 3.15% or 73.80 points to end at 2420.00 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) was up 3.11% or 41.70 points to 1384.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which lost 1.99% or 3.95 points to trade at 195.00 in late trade. NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) declined 1.96% or 1.90 points to end at 94.85 and Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) shed 1.95% or 4.35 points to 218.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 5.51% to 488.00, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was up 3.31% to settle at 1387.60 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which gained 2.83% to close at 2413.10.
The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 1.96% to 94.85 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 1.62% to settle at 427.80 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 1.13% to 5623.70 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1078 to 471 and 59 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1576 rose and 817 declined, while 124 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.24% to 30.0425.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.48% or 8.30 to $1725.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.46% or 0.17 to hit $36.64 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.78% or 0.31 to trade at $39.26 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.49% to 75.457, while EUR/INR rose 0.86% to 84.5875.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.24% at 97.425.
