Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Technology and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.82% to hit a new 6-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.76%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR), which rose 7.34% or 24.60 points to trade at 359.90 at the close. Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) added 4.98% or 38.50 points to end at 812.10 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) was up 3.02% or 82.50 points to 2818.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which lost 3.11% or 2.70 points to trade at 84.00 in late trade. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) declined 2.77% or 1.95 points to end at 68.55 and ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) shed 1.42% or 2.40 points to 167.10.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which rose 3.24% to 4346.95, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 3.19% to settle at 2824.80 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which gained 2.65% to close at 849.70.
The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 2.84% to 68.50 in late trade, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which lost 1.42% to settle at 167.10 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 0.82% to 880.45 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 918 to 695 and 85 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1405 fell and 1192 advanced, while 152 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.60% to 20.3800.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.38% or 7.20 to $1898.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.33% or 0.53 to hit $40.48 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.55% or 0.65 to trade at $42.64 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.14% to 73.229, while EUR/INR fell 0.09% to 86.1575.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 93.645.
